Cassidi - HR Platform Redesign
Overview
Cassidi is a Barcelona-based HR SaaS platform focused on the full employee company lifecycle. The product helps HR teams and managers reduce time spent on repetitive manual tasks, improve employee engagement, and manage talent across the organisation. Despite solid functionality, the platform had grown visually dated and the user experience had become fragmented as the product evolved.
During my UX/UI Design internship at Cassidi, I worked as part of a cross-functional design team on a comprehensive platform redesign. The project ran across the full design process: secondary research, stakeholder workshops, user interviews, affinity diagramming, wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity UI design. It was my first experience working directly with a real product team on a live commercial brief.
The designs we produced were adopted by the company and implemented in the live product, which is the clearest validation of the work.

The Problem
The Problem
A platform that had stopped keeping pace
Cassidi's platform had a strong functional foundation but the design had fallen behind. The interface was visually outdated, didn't reflect the brand identity the company had developed, and the user experience had become increasingly fragmented as new features were bolted on over time.
The two primary user groups, HR Directors and Employees, had meaningfully different needs and mental models but the platform wasn't clearly optimised for either. HR Directors needed to move quickly through repetitive admin tasks and get to insight fast. Employees needed clarity, simplicity, and a sense that the platform was actually built for them, not just for whoever was managing them.
The brief was to rethink the platform from the ground up: reconfigure the layout, reform the visual language, and redesign the core interactions to create something that worked well and looked like a product people would actually want to use.

Research first, design second
The project followed a structured Design Thinking methodology. We didn't start in Figma. We started by understanding the people we were designing for and the business context around them, which shaped every design decision that followed.

User research
User research
User research
Conducted user interviews with HR professionals and employees. Synthesised findings using affinity diagrams and contributed to the user persona development for both user types.
Information architecture
Information architecture
Information architecture
Contributed to the sitemap and page structure, helping reorganise the platform's navigation to better reflect how both HR Directors and Employees actually moved through their tasks.
Wireframing
Wireframing
Wireframing
Produced mid-fidelity wireframes for key platform screens, iterating based on team feedback and usability testing findings before moving into high-fidelity design.
UI design

UI design
Built out high-fidelity screens in Figma, applying the new visual language across platform components. Contributed to the style tile and design system foundations used across the redesign.

Decisions that shaped the redesign
Decisions that shaped the redesign
Designing for two distinct user types
Early research made it clear that HR Directors and Employees had fundamentally different relationships with the platform. We designed separate flows and information hierarchies for each, rather than trying to serve both from a single layout. HR Directors needed speed and data access. Employees needed clarity and simplicity. Conflating those needs in a single UI was part of what had made the original platform feel confusing.

Simplicity as the primary design principle
Interviews consistently surfaced the same themes: users wanted the platform to be fast to navigate, easy to understand without training, and free from visual noise. We stripped back the UI significantly, reduced the number of elements competing for attention on each screen, and introduced clearer visual hierarchy across the core workflows.

Aligning the visual language with the brand
The original platform's visual design didn't match where Cassidi was positioning itself commercially. We rebuilt the colour scheme, typography, and component style from scratch using a mood board and style tile process, producing a visual language that felt modern, professional, and consistent with the product's ambitions rather than its history.

What this project taught me
What this project taught me
"Cassidi was my first real commercial design project and it set a foundation I've drawn on ever since. Working directly with the CEO and CTO in stakeholder workshops, conducting user interviews with real HR professionals, and having to defend design decisions to a team rather than just to myself — all of that shaped how I approach design work. The process was more rigorous than anything I'd done in an educational context, and seeing the designs adopted in the live product was the kind of validation that makes you realise design is only as good as what it enables in practice. It also taught me how much better design decisions become when they're grounded in research rather than assumption."
